We carry mice and rats for our reptile customers and I encourage parents to consider mice as pets instead of hamsters. Rats always make great pets so consider these before any other small rodent pets.

I generally don't recommend hamsters as pets for anyone under 9 or 10 years of age. The hamsters available at T's Olde Towne Pet Shop are bred here or are descendants of stock purchased here. They are never sold unless tame and handleable, but remember, one bite from a hamster is an unforgettable experience and small children should never be put in a position to be bit by such large teeth.

I am especially proud of our gerbil stock, I am VERY carefull of who purchases these. They are especially tame and have all been bred and raised here. Gerbils are very interesting desert animals and because their natural niche is very difficult to simulate in the home they can me stressed easily if kept wrong or mistreated. I only recommend these for someone who will spend alot of time holding and loving their pet.

Guinea pigs, or cavies, have never interested me. But since opening T's Olde Towne Pet Shop I have found them to be loveable intelligent creatures that lend themselves to be perfect pets. We breed all of the available stock here at the store and are careful of who buys them. They are available at 5-6 weeks of age and we will not sell any animal unless it is tame and handleable.

You may notice when visiting T's Olde Towne Pet Shop that we do not have the classic small animal displays on the floor with animals overstocked and running around hiding from groping hands. In fact, we rarely have our mammals on the sales floor. I prefer a more one on one approach with interested clients only, and I find that my mammals are much sweeter and tamer when they aren't exposed to groping hands. All of our mammals are always available to handle by request and we encourage your children to explore handling them.

I am currently exploring some less common rodents to start making available. Spiny mice and gerboas are just two in mind. If you have a request for an interesting pet just ask and if available I will personally find the animal and hand pick it myself, and REMEMBER, I never have animals sent blindly to me on a truck!
