Freshwater fish that are available today are not the quality healthy product that was available as little as 15 years ago. The collapse of the Florida fish farming industry is imminant and most of today's fish are being bred in the far east with no regard for genetic quality. As long as the fish are fancier and more gimmick enriched and new aquarists are less and less educated then the industry will go down the toilet like most other retail products.

Because of this, the healthiest fish are still coming from dedicated hobbyists who strive for perfect health and genetic integrity of the fish that they breed. I have, and will continue to bring to you, the very best hand selected fish from reputable suppliers and as the months pass I hope to wean T's Olde Towne Pet Shop from the need to buy from wholesalers who only deal in mass sales and zero interest in quality fish.

Selecting fish is an art form, it is important to bring in fish that are colorful, interesting, and yet appropriate for most people's tanks. I do carry a steady supply of the "bread and butter" fish, such as livebearers, tetras, and barbs, but as interest dictates I am now bringing in more specialized species such as discus, angelfish, and dwarf cichlids. I do hope to have a wide variety of the hard to get fish such as killifish, apistogrammas, and oddballs, and anyone visiting recently can see the breeding process beginning at T's Olde Towne Pet Shop.

My goal is for nearly all of the freshwater fish at T's Olde Towne Pet Shop to be bred by myself or hobbyists with the same desire for the quality fish that were available years ago. Our breeding projects have begun and I am targeting the species that were once common in stores but now are so difficult to find healthy that many stores just don't carry them. Angelfish and fancy guppys are the two headliners here. Soon these will be available to our clients and there will be no need to wonder if they will thrive when taken home!

When you buy a fish from T's Olde Towne Pet Shop you should look for the care sheets we will have available on this site. These are not the standard broadbased things available on-line and at the chain stores. Our care sheets will have specific information on the species you are taking home such as origin, and I mean production origin, history of the breed, general health expectancy, and more info than you are used to getting. Of course I am always available by telephone to answer any questions or concerns about your freshwater pets.
